    Back at last

Well, I've been away from this site for quite a while; time to catch up.

Work has been done on improvements to our meeting bulletin 'The Keyway', ahead of getting this site (and our main site for Sarina Rotary ) up to date. But together, they represent a public face so I'll get to work.

Technology moves on, so I've added new rss feeds from Rotary International and a 'Latest Photos' album.
My new 3G phone should allow me to post new photos directly to this album. I'll be testing soon.

    Apologies for getting behind.

    21-27Aug - a busy week

This week sees Sarina Rotary accelerating toward another busy weekend.
Partners night on Monday was reasonably hectic on account of food scheduling issues ( a long story),
an induction of new member Pamela, presentation by outgoing GSE rep and a lively unofficial debate about where to hold the Christmas Party.
Then, not only do we have Sarina Markets this weekend, But Charlie & Cartia have decided to get hitched after 20 something years together.

Saturday therefore includes setup for markets,
attend and enjoy the wedding, then front up early Sunday morning for market duties, breakfast (Al), bar & Raffle (the rest).
Charlie assures he will be there on Sunday selling tickets ("nah, I don't need a honeymoon")

And President Roy is squeezed between returning from a course in Brisbane and flying overseas next Monday.

Roll on Monday when all we have to do is get to work ! (except Roy)

    5th/6th Aug 2006 - Sarina Show weekend

What a great weekend (5th/6th August); the skies remained crystal blue for another annual Show day in Sarina.
Sarina Rotary, with much help from Pioneer valley sister clubs, manned the ticket gates, and the bar for many hours on Saturday and Sunday.
Sadly not many pictures Saturday night, but the evening was highlighted by a great competitive Rodeo, Fireworks, and a slight kerfuffle when the bar closed at midnight. (4 or 5 made the paddy-wagon - not Rotarians, I hasten to add.).
Haven't heard what the gate take was yet, but could well be a record.
Another successful year concluded on Sunday afternoon with all hands to move our benches and tables back to the Rotary shed ready for the next Sunday Markets on 27th August.

    Handover published in Midweek

This week's copy of Midweek, published by The Mackay Mercury, contains an article on the Handover Dinner we had on July 8th.
(see Press release in this blog).  I suppose being a newspaper they choose their own words, but instead of saying Brian was 'just off camera', they said he was 'not present'. Sorry Brian.
We'll make it up to him with a 'Brian special' blog shortly.

New President's first full meeting goes well

Our first meeting with Roy as President was a partner's night on Monday 31st July. John, returning member, gave a cameo of his life experiences; we got throught the business of the night leaving time for social engagement ( and the odd drink and joke). A good time was had by all. Pictures coming soon.

    Unabashed "John no-shirt"

    Sunday 30th July.
A heavy day of moving and lifting after Sarina Markets, preparing for Sarina Show next weekend.

John has yet to recover his new lost Rotary T-shirt, but insists on a photo-shoot, to demonstrate he doesn't need it anyway (a moot point, methinks).

More photos from yesterday's hard work will be posted soon.

Getting Warmer / Sarina Show day looms

A big day was had by all yesterday (Sunday) as it was Sarina Markets and Rotary did their usual grand job of running the bar & raffle. Then from 12:30, everything had to be moved out of our semi-permanent shed at the Showground, to make way for another exhibitor in next weekends's Sarina Show.
Lots of tubs, benches, tables moved from A to B to C (and after the show back to A).
They say physical effort is good for the soul, well mine had a polishing as I can feel the effects this morning.

Pictures were taken of the efforts and will be available as a 'Markets Day' Photo Album shortly. And we have one additional photo for the the 'John's lost T-shirt' album.

Partner's night tonight at the RSL, together with Interact.

yet more Albums uploaded - nearly up to date !

Well that's the last of Ralph's CD uploaded for all to see. There's an Album entry for the Chaplaincy Dinner which happened on 21st July, but no photos. The only image there is an appeal to anyone who had a camera that night.
The saga of John's missing T-shirt still looms large. The adventure is yet to be completed.

24th July 2006 Press Release - Presidential Handover

The following article and pictures were sent to the Mackay Mercury for this week's Midweek.

"The Handover Dinner of Sarina Rotary Club was held at the RSL in Sarina on Saturday 8th July 2006. The evening was well attended and went extremely well with guests including Ted Malone (Member for Mirani) and Kevin Morgan, Mayor of Sarina, along with Presidents past and future from other clubs.

After an extremely successful year and an expanded membership, outgoing Ralph Johnson handed over the reins to the new President for 2006-2007,  Roy Roberts, of Sarina Consulting Engineers.

The evening highlights included the award of a Paul Harris Fellowship for extensive services to Rotary and the Community, to Viv Bartlem, (also a founding member of Sarina Rotary), by Dallas Simonson and presentation of Roy’s new Rotary Board.

Information about Sarina Rotary can be found at www.sarinarotary.org.au .

Archives of all photos including the handover night can be found via this web site or directly at http://sarinarotary.spaces.msn.com . "

    John's T-shirt Saga

Added a few photos (thanks Roy) illustrating what can happen if you don't hold onto your T-shirt after a Rotary Handover (oh, is that what it means . . )
John, DO YOU HAVE IT BACK YET?!

Another set of Albums uploaded July 2005 to March 2006

In the progressive refreshing of Sarina Rotary's Website, another 27 photo Albums comprising 229 photos have been uploaded to Sarina Rotary's webspace on MSN Spaces. This represents the months of Jul 2005 to March 2006 of events captured events. I hope to finish the 2005/2006 Rotary year this week although there are some other shots to come in from other Rotary members for the same period.
Thanks to Ralph for supplying the source material to populate our photo archives for 2005/2006.

Once we get up to date with 2005/2006 and the current year 2006/2007 (already 2 events captured), I can start to tackle the previous years. Could be a lifetime's  work this !

Fortunately, MSN Spaces upload features makes the task relatively strightforward.

We're a bit short on captions for the photos, but hopefully that will come with another pass and a few more peopel doing the updating.

Any errors so far are totally my fault .

    Four Avenues of Service

Further to the one-liners in our Profile under 'Interests', here is a fuller explanation of the
    Four Avenues of Service

Based on the Object of Rotary, the Four Avenues of Service are Rotary's philosophical cornerstone and the foundation on which club activity is based:

    • Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the effective functioning of the club.
    • Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and to practice high ethical standards.
    • Community Service covers the projects and activities the club undertakes to improve life in its community.
    • International Service encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary's humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world understanding and peace.
